  1. Log in to the system as the Oracle RDBMS software installation owner<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Stage the oratop executable on the server on which the tool will be executed. \u00a0On a RAC system it is only necessary to stage the executable on one node as it is RAC aware.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Change the name of the executable, eg.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. \n
    $\u00a0mv oratop* oratop<\/span><\/div>\n
    \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  5. Validate the permissions for oratop are 755 (-rwxr-xr-x). If the permissions are not currently set to 755, set the permissions on oratop as follows:\u00a0<\/span>\n
    $ chmod 755 oratop<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  6. Configure the execution environment as follows (if not already set accordingly)<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. \n
    $\u00a0export TERM=xterm \u00a0#or vt100<\/span><\/p>\n
    $ export ORACLE_HOME=<11.2 database home><\/span><\/div>\n
    $ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME\/lib<\/span><\/div>\n
    $ export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME\/bin:$PATH<\/span><\/div>\n
    $ export ORACLE_SID=<local 11.2 database SID to be monitored> \u00a0#only needed if connecting to a local database<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  8. Invoke the tool to monitor a local database as follows (interval can be any interval in seconds):<\/span>\n
    $ .\/oratop -i 10 \/ as sysdba<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  9. Non-dba privileged user requires specific grants to use the tool. \u00a0See User Guide for grants required.<\/span><\/li>\n
  10. Databases can be monitored remotely using a tns alias as described in the\u00a0oratop Users Guide<\/a><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
